SLUG - Plant-Based Alternative to Petroleum Jelly
SLUG is Founder's Formula's plant-based alternative to Petroleum Jelly created to provide you with a healthier way to slug. Popular with South Korean women, ‘Slugging' is the use of a thick, occlusive layer of product on skin to prevent trans-epidermal water loss.
SLUG is suitable to restore very dehydrated skin, or to support the repair of a damaged skin barrier, for example after use or over-use of acid peels.
SLUG is also great for skiers or when bush walking in cold, dry or wet conditions, to maintain hydrated skin.
Created to be ideal for healthy slugging. Can be used for face, hands, feet - all over really.
Founder's Formula SLUG is created with a wax-like hydrogenated vegetable oil that mimics the properties of Petroleum Jelly, but without the mineral petroleum oil yuckiness!
Kakadu Plum Oil is rich in gallic acid that restores the skin barrier and ellagic acid resulting in skin elasticity and suppleness. Gallic acid is also a natural anti-inflammatory that helps reduce redness and irritation.
Certified Organic Macadamia Oil is rich in natural hydrating fatty acids, and especially rich in Omega 7. Known as 'The Beauty Omega', it occurs in salmon, sea buckthorne and macadamia and is essential to the manufacture of collagen. Macadamia is an Australian native, sometimes called Queensland Nut Tree or Maroochy Nut and is also exceptionally rich in naturally occurring squalene, (not to be confused with the synthesised squalane), which the skin produces as its own natural moisturant.
Cucumber Oil, known for its cooling and refreshing effects, has a high mineral content and is a valuable source of potassium, sodium, magnesium, sulphur, silicon, chlorine and florine.
SLUG is also suitable for those individuals who have over-used AHAs and potentially damaged their skin barrier.
Fragrance-Free. Vegan. Plant-Based.
DIRECTIONS
REMEMBER Slugging products are designed as complete occlusives and should be avoided by acne-prone skin. They should only be applied on thoroughly cleansed skins.
SLUG is not intended for long-term use but as a short-term protection against harsh weather conditions and as an occasional overnight treatment for very dehydrated skin.
Spritz toner or misting serum on face first to moisten cleansed skin. Then apply a thick layer of SLUG over face and lips, but avoiding the eye area (or you will awake with puffy eyes!).
Ensure you cleanse and tone thoroughly before slugging as any excess sebum or make-up will become trapped under the occlusive barrier and potentially can cause a breakout.

What is slugging?
Slugging is the Korean beauty skin care trend that involves layering petrolatum (eg Vaseline) over the top of moisturizer to form an extra thick occlusive layer and so prevent trans-epidermal water loss.
Transepidermal water loss occurs when the skin’s natural barrier is unable to function properly due to damage, as we age and produce less natural oils in our skin and if you are using harsh products such as some exfoliators, acids or retinols. Slugging prevents trans-epidermal water loss and so gives skin the opportunity to repair.
The skin barrier helps to protect the skin from bacteria, allergens and fungi as well as prevent water loss to the air. The balance of skin cells and natural oils are crucial for a healthy skin barrier. When the skin’s natural barrier is disrupted or damaged it can cause irritation and sensitivity. The skin’s barrier can be damaged by over-exfoliation, overuse of active skincare ingredient, genetics, and environment.
What are the Benefits of Slugging?
The main benefit of slugging is that it prevents water loss, leaving the skin hydrated and looking dewy. However, slugging may also help to improve the healthy functioning of the skin. Without adequate moisture the skin is unable to function properly. So, by increasing the moisture content of the skin, slugging may help to improve the skin’s health.
